Central Serbia is the historical core of modern Serbia, which excludes autonomous province of Vojvodina to the north and disputed territory of Kosovo (Kosovo and Metohija) to the south.

When Romans conquered this area, several Roman provinces were located in Serbia. By early 6th century, South Slavs were present throughout the Byzantine Empire in large numbers. There were 18 Roman emperors were born in in Serbia. Serbia co-founded Yugoslavia with other South Slavic peoples in the aftermath of World War II until its dissolution in 1992. Both "Byzantine Empire" and "Eastern Roman Empire" are historiographical terms created after the end of the realm; more than 1000 years, its citizens continued to refer to their empire simply as the Roman Empire (Latin: Imperium Romanum), or Romania, and to themselves as "Romans".
From Bulgaria we crossed the border into Serbia and arrived in Nis, an important crossroad between the East and the West. This emerging city was settled in pre-Roman times and flourished during the time of Emperor Constantine (君士坦丁大帝) who was born here. Then we drove to Belgrade which is the capital of Serbia and located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers (薩瓦河和多瑙河交匯處), where the Pannonian Plain (潘諾尼亞平原) meets the Balkans. The city was battled over in 115 wars and razed 44 times. Belgrade was the capital of Yugoslavia in 1918. The building in below (3rd picture) was bombed by NATO in 1999.
